Finding the Rhythm

WeAreDevelopers World Congress has happened. Sadly my talk wasn’t accepted for the conference, but it was good enough that I got a virtual spot, and with that a ticket. So I thought it was a good idea to meet up with old friends, check the booths and vendors for open positions, and get a glimpse of where we’re heading.

Being a free agent changed how I approached the conference. It was liberating. I didn’t have the feeling that I needed to generate value for an employer, so I could just live in the moment.

And I lived it. Moderators dropped out, and there was a short notice call for drop-ins. So I moderated my first stage. It was fun, still exhausting, but this means there’ll probably be a next time.

WeAreDevelopers helped me look at things differently. Talking to companies, exploring options, evaluating my goals. I feel less stressed about the future, and I’m okay with that this time. I’ll just see what happens, and hope the stars align in my favor.

As a next step, during summer I’ll focus on “Left of the Loop,” getting reviews in and trying to make it a great book. Draft available at leftoftheloop.dev, feedback always welcome.

I found a regular schedule. Regular coffees, and now regularly visiting companies, as an option, as a way to share OpenFeature, and as a way to learn about AI adoption.

It still feels like a limbo. But I feel like I know the ropes now.
